The Binding Relic[1] is a metaphysically imbued relic that contains the power to restrain a possessor ghost.

History

As a safeguard to make sure his legacy never fell into the wrong hands, Tobin used a binding relic in the form of a leather strap to seal the first edition of Tobin's Spirit Guide then he had the book buried with his body.[2] At some point, Egon Spengler came across an almost identical set of findings related to metaphysically imbued relics.[3][4] In the present, a rookie went into the Rift opened by Nameless on the second floor of the Firehouse and met the ghost of Tobin who tried to explain to them what a Binding Relic was. After the rookie returned, the relic was turned over to Eddy Chan. Ray Stantz implored Eddy to incorporate the relic into his Kinetic Endothermic Actuator. A bottle with the relic wrapped around it was added to the actuator. Nameless was successfully removed from Winston Zeddemore and sealed in the bottle.

After Samhain arrived in the Firehouse sub-basement, he grabbed at Nameless but was repelled by the Binding Relic. He still managed to levitate the jar holding Nameless and draining him of all his energy. Before the team of Ghostbusters departed for the Whitestone Museum to capture Samhain, Eddy stopped one of the rookies at the Gear Cart. Eddy stated he worked in absolutes and scientific reality, but as much as it killed him to say it, he revealed he had a hunch the Binding Relic would come of use. He warned the rookie he would deny having said it. He wished the rookie good luck then was disgusted with himself. He yelled at the rookie to go and never speak of the conversation. The relic came in handy. The rookie tied it around the Trap containing Samhain to keep him trapped forever.
