The Ghostbusters wore Uniforms (which were CWU-27p Flight Suits) in the movies, though the color varied from light grey, to beige, to navy blue. The costume choice was meant to convey the look of a janitor or exterminator.
Canonicity
Uniforms in the Primary Canon is developed from Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Ghostbusters: Back in Town, and Ghostbusters: Dead Man's Chest. In Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Realistic Versions), a Secondary Canon, Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II pre-date the game, Ghostbusters: Afterlife conflicts with the game. Uniforms appears in the IDW Comic Series, a Secondary Canon, which follows Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II, also includes some elements from Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Realistic Versions) and Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Stylized Versions); as well as being canon to Tobin's Spirit Guide (Insight Editions). Ghostbusters: Legion and Tokyopop, deemed a Tertiary Canon, follows Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II.

Gloria Gresham says: "When Ivan first called, he was already saying to me that he would like to see a new design, a different ghostbusters costume. I did different shapes, different colors, different fabric. Then we'd go to dailies and we'd look at it on film, and Ivan would say 'No, that's not it.'"

- ↑ Blue Screen Reveals "Alexis Forte: The Costumes of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" 6/8/2024Alexis Forte says: "Recreating the jumpsuits for the new films was arguably the most daunting task for the costume department since the originals from the 1980s were neither in the Sony archives nor did the Reitmans own them. Luckily, the Ghostbusters fandom is a loyal one, and the costume department was able to contact a collector who owned one of the originals–but that was just the first piece of the puzzle. Forte explained, “We laid it out and measured all the pockets. The original suits were bought off the shelf, and unfortunately they no longer make that exact model ... There is no 100% cotton ripstop in the modern ones, which are instead made of smarter tech fabrics, with different pockets and zippers. So instead of altering the store-bought suits, we just made them all from scratch.” Then she added about the aging process, “Normally, before you make something, you wash the fabric so that the seams don’t seize up after you sew. But for this, we made the suits without washing the fabric so that when you sew all the pieces together and then throw it in the washing machine, the fabric would shrink, creating little puckering on all the seams to make it look like it's been very lived in”."

I was like 'Pull everything from them. I don't want them to make anything else. Just pull it. We'll owe them whatever money we owe them but just take everything away from them.' We brought it to another place and we started making two of hers in-house. So it all worked out."

Ray and Winston's lockers, for some pick up shots and do you have that? Do you know anybody who does?' and I was like Oh..."
