The Mood Reader[1] is head wear designed to test the reactions of Psychomagnotheric Slime to emotions.
History
Primary Canon History
Ghostbusters II
After the Slime in Bathtub Attack incident in late December 1989, Peter Venkman called up the Firehouse and informed Ray Stantz about what happened. Ray was in the middle of analysis and was wearing the Mood Reader. The Mood Reader was connected to a jar of Psychomagnotheric Slime. Ray then relayed the news to Egon Spengler and took the reader off.
Secondary Canon History
IDW Comics
After the second Idulnas incident, Ray wore the Mood Reader while he and Egon boned up on extradimensional theory. Shortly after the Ghostbusters's first battle with Tiamat, Louis Tully was analyzed by Egon Spengler and Kylie Griffin. Tully wore the Mood Reader. Once it was clear the interns were responsible for the convergence of the prime dimension and Dimension 80-C, they were analyzed and interrogated. Evan Torres wore the Mood Reader.
Description
The Mood Reader is a skull cap with a ribbon cable and wiring hooked to a machine and to a sample of Psychomagnotheric slime.

Ghostbusters II Trivia
- In the Ghostbusters II: Storybook, Topps Ghostbusters II Trading Cards, and Ghostbusters Official (Web Site), there was are stills from a deleted scene of Egon Spengler wearing the Mood Reader while Ray is wearing a blue version not seen in the movie.
IDW Comics Trivia
- In Ghostbusters Volume 2 #5, on Page 3, Ray is wearing the Mood Reader hooked up to the Mood Slime.
- In Ghostbusters Volume 2 #17, on Page 4, Louis is wearing the Mood Reader Ray wore in Chapter 14, when Peter told Ray about the Bathtub full of slime that tried to grab Oscar.
- In Ghostbusters 101 Issue #5, on page 3, in panel 4, Evan has on the Mood Reader Ray wore in Chapter 14.
