The Con Edison Man[1] is an employee of Consolidated Edison, Inc. in New York City.
History
The Con Edison Man, along with the Police Captain, was brought into the Firehouse to shut down the protection grid of the Containment Unit. Walter Peck led them in. In the basement, the Con Edison Man immediately admitted he hadn't seen anything like the Containment Unit. Peck didn't care and ordered him to shut it down. Peter Venkman advised the Con Edison Man not to do it. After some tense words, the Con Edison Man went to the gray lever and pulled it down with much hesitation. After alarms and lights were set off, he only uttered, "Oh shit" then fled the Firehouse with the others.
Trivia
- The Con Edison costume given to Larry Dilg to wear was fitted to a body double that stood in for him when the scene of the actors running out of Hook & Ladder No. 8 in New York was filmed. In the Los Angeles filming, Dilg got a helmet that was too small. On the first take, the helmet fell off and when he bent down to pick it up, the tools fell out of his utility belt and everyone laughed about it. In scenes, he is holding onto his helmet and belt to actually keep them on.[2]

They filmed that before they filmed the stuff in LA. So the guy running out of Ladder 8 is not him. It's a different body double guy and so the costume fit that guy and so the helmet was too small and Larry explained that in the first take the helmet fell off and he bent over to pick it up and all the tools were falling out of the belt, clanging, and everybody was laughing. So that's why he's holding onto it in that scene but it actually makes the scene funnier."
